We list "New Jobs for the Week" on Campus Pipeline under "Personal Announcements" and in the glassed bulletin board in the Student Center and outside our office in Miller Hall. For job details and employer contact information, come to the Career Services Office in Room 140 in Miller Hall.

CAREER COUNSELING

We provide career counseling services to students, graduates, and prospective students. Resources and services include career interest inventories, career information, career counseling, and referral to other agencies. Our counselors can help you identify your interests and skills, set career and personal goals, develop a career plan, and learn the secrets of career success.

To access this web-based planning system, click here. You may complete one or more assessments and find careers that match your assessment results, or you may simply look up descriptions and educational requirements for careers that you are considering.

INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE WITH EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS

We provide these services for all students and graduates:

  • How to find a job
  • How to fill out employment applications
  • How to prepare a marketable resume
  • How to write an effective cover letter
  • Preparing for interviews
  • Dressing appropriately for an interview
  • How to write an effective thank you letter
  • How to properly accept a job
  • How to keep your job

Come in any time to request assistance; you do not need an appointment.

We offer two types of employability skills workshops and special events:

  • Workshops tailored to the needs of students in one department or division
  • Workshops or events open to all students

COOPERATIVE EDUCATION

Cooperative Education (Co-op) is a structured academic program that provides learning experiences that occur at a worksite in ways that reinforce and supplement classroom learning, provide meaningful work experience, and contribute to the student's career development. Co-op positions are paid, and many include other benefits such as employer-sponsored tuition. At the present time, co-op experiences do not result in College credit.

Highlights of this program include:

  • On-site work experience that complements/enhances classroom studies.
  • Hourly wage for student worker paid by employer (for approximately 20 hours per week)
  • Education benefits (offered at the discretion of employer)

INTERNSHIPS

Internships include worksite learning that meets specific classroom objectives, provides valuable experience, and helps the student refine or confirm his/her career goals.

Highlights of this program include:

  • Short-term placement (one or two semesters for up to 20 hours/week) providing work experiences and exploration related to the student's classroom studies
  • May be paid or non paid, and education benefits may be provided at the discretion of the company
  • May receive college credit

APPRENTICESHIPS

Apprenticeships include classroom and work-based learning that is purposefully integrated, closely supervised and requires a specified number of hours of classroom studies and worksite training. Registered apprenticeship positions are paid, and in most cases include other benefits such as employer-sponsored tuition grants or reimbursement. Credit for the work-based learning component of the program may be applicable toward journeyworker certification.

  • Long-term, highly structured training program for employees resulting in journey worker certification and/or an associate degree
  • Salary paid by employer, along with other education and employee benefits
  • Job training occurs on-site, around work hours (classroom studies may be offered on campus and/or at the work site)

ON-CAMPUS RECRUITING
  • Business representatives are invited to campus to discuss employment opportunities with students at any time during the academic year.
  • Business representatives meet with students in Career Services in Miller Hall, Room 140.

CAREER FAIR

Don't miss this annual March event!

  • Area employers visit campus to meet students and graduates who want to apply for employment.
  • Employer representatives set up tables in the cafeteria with information about their business and their employment needs.
  • Students and graduates should dress professionally, bring copies of resumes to give recruiters, and be prepared for on-the-spot interviews.

A gift for our graduates!

When you are ready to graduate from Tri-County, be sure to visit the Career Services Office, Miller Hall, Room 140, to receive your FREE Job Search Portfolio. It is an attractive portfolio you can carry with you to job interviews, and it contains paper, pen, resume paper, a computer disk, and "The Job Hunting Handbook," and excellent employability skills reference.
