ANDERSON --- Look upon your college graduation as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make your mark on a very different world, Tri-County Technical College President Don C. Garrison told the 203 graduates receiving degrees, diplomas and certificates at the College's summer commencement held August 12 at the Anderson Civic Center.
"You, the Class of 2002, are the first graduating class since the September 11 disaster, and the world you step out into tonight is a very different place than it was this time last year," said Dr. Garrison. "That horrific day changed all of us fundamentally and to our core. We see the world through a different paradigm now through different eyes. Now we all place greater value on the simpler things in life -- the basic things such as jobs, families and friends."
He advised the grads to always give their best effort in everything they undertake and to never give up on things that are important to them.
"Attach yourself to a cause greater than yourself," he said. "Give something back to your country in appreciation for the freedoms you enjoy. If you let your life be part of something that is bigger than you, it will be tremendously rewarding."
Following the address, President Garrison and other college officials presented degrees, diplomas and certificates to the following graduates:
