Dr. Chris Przirembel Urges Tri-County Grads
To be Passionate about Lifelong Learning

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 5/17/2004
(By Lisa Garrett)
ANDERSON --- Be passionate about lifelong learning because it is essential in your entire working life, Dr. Chris Przirembel, vice president for research at Clemson University, told the 426 graduates receiving degrees, diplomas and certificates at Tri-County Technical College's spring commencement. The ceremony was held May 16 at the Anderson Civic Center.

Around 70 percent of the workforce in our area's high-tech companies need at least a high school diploma, but, more often, at least a two-year degree from a technical college, said Dr. Przirembel, who serves as a member of the administrative team of Clemson University and has primary responsibility for Clemson's funded and unfunded research programs.

"It is these associates who are vital to maintaining our standard of living and who truly create the wealth in the U.S. and other developed countries. They manufacture these value-added products in a knowledge-based economy," he said.

He referenced the Clemson International Center for Automotive Research, which is driven by the concept of innovation. "Clemson University, in partnership with the State and companies, is developing a world-class research and education center. The new knowledge generated in this Center will result in new high-tech products that we want to manufacture principally in S.C. or at least in the Southeast," said Dr. Przirembel.

"As this new knowledge is added to these products, you need to continually upgrade your knowledge and skills. It is not enough to know the equipment, processes and products of today but to be able to know them in the future. Lifelong learning is absolutely essential and the technical colleges are critical in this process," he added.

Following Dr. Przirembel's address, President Ronnie L. Booth and other College officials presented degrees, diplomas and certificates to the graduates.
