Three Hundred and Sixty-Seven Graduate from Tri-County Technical College

CONTACT: LISA GARRETT, EXT. 1506

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 5/12/2003

ANDERSON --- The key to success in life is attaching yourself to a cause that is greater than yourself, Dr. Don C. Garrison told the Class of 2003 in his final graduation speech before retiring from Tri-County Technical College following 32 years as its president.

After devoting himself to the College and to a career in education that spans 40-plus years, Dr. Garrison will step down July 31 and retire as president of Tri-County.

"I have seen a lot during my career, and I consider every minute a gift. Without a doubt, the most meaningful part of my presidency has been having the opportunity to get to know students like you," he said to the 367 graduates.

"You've shared your stories of struggle and triumph with me. You've told me just how much Tri-County means to you. You've talked about how much our faculty and staff have always gone the extra mile for you. You've visited my office and helped me to keep my finger on the pulse of what makes this College so special."

He continued: "Someone once said, 'Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.' I have had those moments in my personal and professional career. I hope you have, too. Perhaps graduating from Tri-County will be one of them."

Following the address, President Garrison and other College officials presented degrees, diplomas and certificates to the 367 graduates:
