Athletics Enhances the College Experience at Tri-County

PENDLETON ---Athletes never win on talent alone -- it takes other things like determination, differentiation and dharma, sports talk show host Mickey Plyler told a crowd at Tri-County A.J. BrundrettTechnical College’s second annual Athletic Awards banquet honoring Men’s Golf and Men’s Soccer teams. 

“Find that dharma, which is what you do best, and match it in a way to serve humanity,” said Plyler, who can be heard live each weekday from 6 - 9 a.m. on 104.9 WCCP Radio.  
         
“The most successful people in life find their dharma,” said Plyler, who for the last seven years has hosted a sports talk show for WCCP-FM in Clemson.  Plyler hosts pre- and post-game shows for Clemson athletics, as well as a very popular live Sunday Night Recruiting Show that features as many as 40 players each week.  Blake Fortner

“Athletics, as well as life, is difficult if we’re not all on the same page,” he said.  “We all need to be rolling in the same direction.  It becomes easier when you commit yourself to a cause and that’s happened here at Tri-County.  Your athletics programs are successful because you -- administrators, coaches, players and parents --  are all rolling in the same direction.”

Three years ago, Tri-County’s Men’s Golf Team was established, with the Men’s Soccer Team following the next year.  Both teams are sanctioned by the National Junior Drew PenleyCollege Athletic Association (NJCAA) and compete at the club level in NJCAA’s Region X. .

Plyler congratulated Tri-County President Ronnie Booth on the decision to bring sports to the College.  “The college experience is better for you guys.  The lessons learned in a team sport are among the greatest learned in life,” he said referring specifically to teamwork, sacrifice, trust, accountability and responsibility.Drew Porter



Following Plyler’s speech, these awards were presented:

Men’s Golf Team:
Blake Fortner, of Honea Path, won the Team Spirit Award.
A. J. Brundrett, of Clemson, won the Most Valuable Player Award for Fall 2006.
Drew Penley, of Clemson, won the Most Valuable Player Award for Spring 2007.

Roman WilsonMen’s Soccer Team
Roman Wilson of Iva, won the Team Spirit Award.
Josh Richey of Anderson, won the Academic Highest GPA Award.
Drew Porter of Pickens, won the Most Valuable Player Award.
