PENDLETON --- Tri-County Technical College will be the site for the 2007 Two-Year College English Association (TYCA) Southeast Institute in Technical Communication this summer.

This is the first time the College has hosted this national meeting, set for June 17-22.

“The seminar is not limited to English teachers; it is open to anyone interested in teaching technical communication,” said Dr. Amoena Norcross, coordinator for Instructional Activities for the English Department at Tri-County and director of this year’s Institute.  “It’s also applicable to science instructors, for example, who want to incorporate writing into their science teachings,” she said.

“This six-day intensive, interactive workshop brings together experts and practitioners so that participants are able to apply ideas immediately to their classroom teaching of technical communication,” added Dr. Norcross.

Leading the sessions will be Dr. Norcross and Tri-County English instructors Katy Goforth and Jennifer Beattie, along with Clemson University English professors Dr. Susan Hilligoss and Dr. Joseph Sample.  Seminar topics will include evaluating student writing, ethics, technical descriptions, visual communication and document design, as well as other topics.

The cost of the Institute is $500 (includes tuition, materials, lunches and snacks). A $100 deposit is due March 1, 2007, and competitive $250 stipends are available to TYCA-SE members.  For more information, go to www.tctc.edu and click on the Institute in Technical Communication link.
