Tri-County Technical College Offers Full Services at Anderson Campus

CONTACT:  TIM BOWEN, 260-6705

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 7/9/2009
(By Lisa Garrett)

ANDERSON --- Tri-County Technical College is assembling all of its resources at the Anderson Campus July 21 to allow new students to complete the entire enrollment process -- from applying for admission to registering for fall semester classes – all in one day.

“During these challenging economic times, one of the best investments a person can make is a technical college education. And if you have the time to devote the better part of the afternoon, you can start from scratch and leave with a schedule in hand,” said Tim Bowen, director of the Anderson Campus.

The event will be held from 1 – 7 p.m. at the College’s Anderson Campus located at 511 Michelin Boulevard.  Fall semester classes begin August 24.

“Our goal is to serve people where they live. So on July 21, you can do it all here in one day,” said Bowen. Students with less time also may complete many of the steps of enrollment even if they don’t complete the entire process in one day.

Prospective students will be able to submit an application, take the placement test (offered from noon until 5 p.m.), register, receive financial aid information, obtain career counseling, receive academic advising for programs offered at the Anderson Campus, pay for classes and find answers to questions about the College.  Persons are reminded that to complete the financial aid application process, students and parents (if applicable) need to bring copies of their 2008 tax returns.

“People come to the Anderson campus because it’s convenient,” said Bowen, adding, “While July 21 is primarily aimed at new students, current students also may attend and receive assistance as well.”

Many new services and programs are being added this fall. “We are essentially doubling our full-time faculty this fall, adding instructors for math and sociology to complement two science and English instructors already on site,” said Bowen. The campus also has numerous adjunct instructors teaching in multiple other disciplines.

Admissions Counselor and Career Specialist Butch Merritt became full time July 1 and is available Monday – Friday to assist students with admissions, career exploration, financial aid questions and registration.

The COMPASS placement testing is now offered at the Anderson Campus on Fridays with expanded hours from 8 a.m. until noon.  Also, a financial aid workshop is set for Wednesday, July 15, from 1 – 4 p.m.  This will allow persons to talk with financial aid representatives about any aspect of financial aid.

Bowen says a new cross-divisional team is exploring expansion of existing programs and development of new academic programs at the Anderson Campus.  “Our goal is to vastly expand our general education offerings, develop a full-blown associate’s degree and new signature programs that can be completed in their entirety here in Anderson.”

Bowen noted that the campus is conveniently located for both Anderson and Oconee county residents.

“We are a growing campus and a key resource for the Anderson community.  The campus serves several of the College’s goals by bringing its programs closer to Anderson residents, increasing community involvement and expanding educational opportunities,” said Bowen.  “Our rallying cry is accessibility, availability and affordability.”
